The main problem during the search for missing people remains the lack of information on possible burial sites where excavations and exhumations can be carried out, Inal Tasoev, Commissioner for Human Rights in South Ossetia, noted in a comment to IA “Res”.
The day before, at the state border of the Republic, in the village of Ergnet, another meeting took place within the framework of the Tripartite Coordination Mechanism for the search for missing persons.
“During the meeting, there was detailed discussion of the actions taken by the parties in searching for missing persons since the last meeting held in May 2023,” he said. - The main problem during the search remains the lack of information on possible burial sites where excavations and exhumations can be carried out. In this regard, it was discussed what else the parties need to do to contact potential witnesses and eyewitnesses, as well as the work with other possible sources of information.”
In addition, according to Tasoev, the ways to strengthen, structure and operate the tripartite coordination mechanism were discussed in order to make it more sustainable and effective in the long term.
A work plan for 2024 was also outlined.
South Ossetia was represented at the meeting by Inal Tasoev and Deputy Presidential Envoy of the Republic of South Ossetia for post-conflict settlement issues Egor Kochiev.
