The Russian Federation, being interested in establishing peace and stability in its immediate border area, taking into account the historical connection with the South Ossetian people and spiritual community, took all possible steps under those conditions to stop the war. This was stated in the speech of President Alan Gagloev at the ceremonial meeting dedicated to the 32nd anniversary of the adoption of the Act of Proclamation of Independence of South Ossetia.

On Wednesday, South Ossetia is marking one of the most important historical dates for the history of the country. 32 years ago, deputies of the Supreme Council of the Republic, chaired by Torez Kulumbegov, unanimously supported the resolution on the adoption of the Act of Declaration of Independence.

Gagloev emphasized that ultimately, the decisive diplomatic intervention of the Russian Federation forced Georgia to sign a peace agreement on June 24, 1992, according to which the peacekeeping forces entered the conflict zone on July 14, 1992.

“After the establishment of peace, the Republic continued to develop, build and strengthen its sovereign statehood, never deviating from the choice made by the people in the referendum on January 19, 1992 and enshrined in the Act of Declaration of Independence. It was this circumstance that made it possible for the Russian Federation to recognize the state independence of South Ossetia after repelling another Georgian attack and forcing the aggressor to peace,” Gagloev said.

By the act of recognition, the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia was finally secured, the final victory of our people in the struggle for their right to self-determination.

“Thanks to the further development of relations with Russia, continuing its course towards integration with the Russian Federation, South Ossetia is confidently following the intended course, realizing the centuries-old dream of its people,” the head of state has emphasized.
