A solemn event dedicated to the International Russian Language Day and the 225th anniversary of the poet’s birth was held in Tskhinval, at the monument to the Great Russian writer Alexander Pushkin.

The event brought together representatives of the public, teachers of Russian studies, as well as schoolchildren and students. Excerpts from the poems and fairy tales of the Great poet were being heard, creating an atmosphere of sublimity and inspiration.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov addressed the audience.

“Russian Language Day is the bond that unites everyone. After all, it is not without reason that this day is dedicated to the day of the great poet, storyteller, on whose images we have studied since childhood. We perceived the world in the words and images of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin. He introduced us to this beautiful world, he revealed the fullness and beauty with his words,” he said.

Kulakhmetov also read out a congratulatory message from Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

The head of the Russian House in Tskhinval, Sergei Komissarov, also congratulated everyone on today’s holiday. He expressed gratitude to the Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature of South Ossetia (APRYAL) represented by Zalina Tedeeva, as well as to the leadership of the South Ossetian State University and teachers of Russian studies for their active assistance in popularizing the Russian language.

“I am very glad and proud that we have a very powerful outpost in the South Caucasus, where there are no barriers to the Russian language, and the citizens of South Ossetia have every opportunity to develop, grow and educate children,” Komissarov said.

On behalf of the head of state, the guests and participants of the event were also congratulated on the holiday by the First Deputy Head of the Presidential Executive Office of South Ossetia, Konstantin Dzhioev.

“This is truly a great holiday for the entire Russian world, for the all Russian-speaking people. The work of Alexander Sergeevich, like a huge rock, rises in Russian poetry and his work is a belt line that connects the entire Russian world. Thanks to all the organizers, the Russian Embassy in South Ossetia, the “Russian House” for helping to closely unite South Ossetia with the Russian world,” Dzhioev said.

According to the APRYAL President Zalina Tedeeva, Pushkin’s poetry is capable of awakening the deepest feelings in the hearts of people of different generations.

It is joyful that we have gathered at the monument to Pushkin to pay tribute to the first pen of Russia and the main poet of Russia, who also became a very close and popular poet for us. Pushkin always unites everyone, and in the twenty-first century he sounds in a new way, very soulfully and touches such strings of our souls that we sometimes do not feel in ourselves,” Tedeeva said.

As part of the event, awards were given to participants in a creative essay competition, which was held by the APRYAL for schoolchildren of the Republic and students of the South Ossetian University.

The event ended with the laying of flowers at the monument to the great poet.
