In Tskhinval, on the Day of Memory and Sorrow, a commemorative event dedicated to the 83rd anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War was held on the Walk of Fame near the Eternal Flame.
The leadership of South Ossetia, headed by President Alan Gagloev, Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov, members of Parliament, the public, military personnel, residents and guests of the Republic came to pay tribute to the memory of those killed in the Great Patriotic War.
Those gathered laid flowers at the memorial in memory of the fallen heroes who gave their lives for the Great Victory.
During the Great Patriotic War, 21,736 residents of South Ossetia went to the front, of which 11,711 people died in the battles; more than 7 thousand went missing. 34 Ossetians were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
