At the BRICS games, the South Ossetian team gained invaluable experience, which they will use in the future in working with young chess players, President of the Chess Federation Georgy Shakhvlokhov said at the press conference in Tskhinval.

South Ossetia took part in the BRICS Games for the first time, taken place in Kazan.

“There were two of us chess players - me and Andrey Kodoev. Our chess team did not become a prize-winner, but individually we achieved a number of victories, including over countries that are much larger than us in terms of territory and population,” Shavlokhov said.

According to him, they played 40 games with the strongest chess players in the world .

“We gained a lot of experience. We played 40 games with the strongest chess players in the world. For example, the Russian national team consisted of a stellar cast and the experience of playing with such chess players gives a lot. We can pass on the experience that we have gained to our students, since we are still teachers. In addition, we have also established relations with the national teams of other countries,” the head of the Federation has noted.

The bronze medalist of the competition, a boxer Guram Gagiev, has emphasized that it was a great honor for the South Ossetian athletes to represent the country under their flag and have the opportunity to compete at such major competitions.

“The opponents at the games were strong. On the way to bronze, I had three fights with the opponent from Saudi Arabia, a representative of Uzbekistan, etc. For me, participating in such a large-scale sporting event is a great experience,” Gagiev said.

The bronze medalist of the competition, a wrestler Azamat Dzhioev, has also noticed the strong composition of the national teams.

“I had five fights and lost to a wrestler from Dagestan, who competed for the Russian national team. The opponents were very strong, the teams brought out their first numbers on the mat. Participation in these games is a great experience for us,” Dzhioev said.
