The methods of the Georgian side frankly do not contribute to the creation of a more positive atmosphere in relations with South Ossetia, President of the Republic of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev said in the interview with Izvestia.

The President has noted that instead of constructive dialogue, the Republic is being addressed with speculative calls to join the European Union with Georgia by 2030.

"South Ossetia has long ago and irrevocably decided on its choice of friends and allies. Our path is the integration with Russia," Gagloev snapped.

He has reminded that since the fall of 2008, contacts with Georgia are carried out on the platform of the Geneva discussions. And a little later, in April 2009, Incident Prevention and Response Mechanisms were created within the framework of the discussions to consider local issues, border incidents, etc.

“The main objective of the Geneva discussions is to ensure security for South Ossetia and Abkhazia on the part of Georgia by concluding the agreements on the non-use of force. However, due to Georgia’s persistent refusal to sign such legally binding documents with South Ossetia and Abkhazia, the resolution of this issue has not moved forward in 15 years,” Gagloev has noted.

He has added, that such approach, does not allow us to talk about further measures to restore trust between the parties and a final easing of tension.

The leader of the Republic has continued, the so-called law on occupied territories is still in effect in Georgia, according to which South Ossetia and Abkhazia are effectively being blockaded from the Georgian side.

“Georgia, with the help of Western countries, also continues to make efforts to isolate our Republics internationally,” the head of state has noted.

Gagloev has also added that the situation on the Republic's borders with Georgia is currently quite stable.

"The state borders of South Ossetia are guarded by the Russian and the South Ossetian border guards. The ground for periodic provocations is created by Georgia's refusal to carry out the joint work on delimitation and demarcation of the borders.

As for committing provocations in the future, we are monitoring the situation in Georgia, where another domestic political crisis is being observed," he said.

The numerous radical groups involved in these processes and regularly making aggressive nationalist slogans cannot but cause concern among the South Ossetian public, Gagloev added.
