At all meetings in the format of the Geneva discussions, South Ossetia raises the issue of missing people, but the Georgian party sabotages the solution to the problem. This was reported by State Advisor to President of the Republic of South Ossetia Konstantin Kochiev, summing up the results of the 62nd round of the International Discussions on Security in Transcaucasia.
He has emphasized that this is a very important issue for the Republic.
"We must find out the fates of all people who went missing during the war. There are a number of cases when the Ossetians were abducted, who simply disappeared on the territory of Georgia, although we know that they were in the hands of the Georgian so-called law enforcement officers. Georgia is sabotaging the solution to this problem, but we will continue to actively work to attract the attention of the world community to this topic,” he said.
According to Kochiev, the US State Department pointed out the existence of this problem as one of the significant violations of human rights by the Georgian authorities.
“This means that our work is producing results. The most important thing is that the discussions highlight the situation around South Ossetia and Abkhazia, attracting the attention of the world community, so that there are fewer risks and temptations on the part of the Georgian revanchists to return to attempts to resolve the problem by force,” the State Adviser has noted.
The next round of International Discussions is scheduled for March 2025.
