More than three thousand citizens of South Ossetia, whose close relatives died or whose property was damaged during the August 2008 war, filed complaints with the European Court of Human Rights. This was reported at the press conference in the Information and Press Committee by the Presidential Human Rights Commissioner of the Republic of South Ossetia Inal Tasoev.
He has clarified that for more than ten years, the cases of citizens of South Ossetia have not been considered, half of them were thrown out without consideration.
“We have collected and sent all the evidence, all the materials that were necessary over these years, but, unfortunately, they have not been considered,” the Ombudsman said.
He has also answered a journalist's question about the ICC decision to issue arrest warrants in the summer of 2022 for former Interior Minister Mikhail Mindzaev, former head of the Interior Ministry pretrial detention center Hamlet Guchmazov and former Presidential Commissioner for Human Rights of South Ossetia David Sanakoev, who were holding their positions in August 2008, during the period of Georgia's armed aggression against the Republic of South Ossetia.
"We have often raised this issue at the international venues, this is complete discrimination and a policy of double standards, which is unacceptable. European justice is politicized, there is no any hope for justice," Tasoev has noted.
He has added that the citizens of the Republic of South Ossetia have done nothing illegal, "these are double standards and the ICC policy that we have been observing all these years."
