Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov noted the positive achievements of South Ossetia and successful cooperation with Russia.
“I am very impressed with the Republic,” Reshetnikov said at the meeting with the South Ossetian President Alan Gagloev in Tskhinval. “It’s one thing to hear, and another thing to see and observe how development is going. We also see and really appreciate the attitude of the Republic’s residents towards us, especially in recent years in a difficult situation.”
The Minister emphasized the successful implementation of joint projects.
“We are implementing a large number of projects. Although this is my first time in the Republic, my colleagues often come here. Today we have visited many facilities that are under construction and have been built. I can assess the quality of the facilities — it is very good, and the result has been achieved very economically. It is clear that everything is being done competently, from landscaping to social infrastructure facilities and their planning. Your team and the Russian Embassy play a major role in this,” the Minister has noted.
Reshetnikov emphasized the importance of further cooperation, including economic development.
“It is very important that we continue to focus on the economy in addition to building social facilities such as schools and kindergartens. This is extremely important. This is the right approach, a new line that leads to strengthening the economic independence of South Ossetia, which, among other things, uses the large Russian market. We are extremely interested in expanding the supply of food products, wood processing, stone processing and developing the resource base - this is of great importance,” Reshetnikov has stressed.
He also noted the role of the Republic's leadership in implementing projects.
“We are a single economic mechanism. Many projects that had been discussing for a long time but stalled have now moved forward thanks to your involvement and the control of your team,” he added.
The Minister has noted the importance of the fact that the Republic is open to Russian business, “and we will encourage this in every possible way.
"For me, the important indicator is that residents themselves invest in their businesses, and I want to help such people. South Ossetia has something to offer the Russian market, primarily in the tourism sector."
In conclusion, Reshetnikov emphasized the importance of analyzing the work done.
"We must carefully look at the program that was implemented; recognize what worked and what didn't, in order to avoid any mistakes. Those who do not work do not make mistakes. The main thing is that we have mutual understanding."
