A round table on the topic "The Genocide of the Ossetian people - 105 years" was held at the South Ossetian State University.

The event was attended by State Advisor to President of the Republic of South Ossetia Batraz Begizov, First Deputy Prime Minister Alan Dzhioev, Deputy Speakers of the Parliament Zita Besaeva and Taimuraz Tadtaev, Minister of Culture Rada Dzagoeva, Advisor to the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of South Ossetia Igor Terziyan, Ambassador of Abkhazia to South Ossetia Alan Elbakiev, the faculty of the South Ossetia State University headed by Rector Vadim Tedeev and representatives of the scientific community of the Republic.

The event began with a screening of the documentary about the bloody events of 1920, prepared by the "YuOGU-TV".

On behalf of the head of state Alan Gagloev, the State Adviser to President Batraz Begizov addressed the audience with a welcoming address, emphasizing that the genocide of 1920 is not just a historical date, but the open bleeding wound in the heart of each Ossetian.

"The genocide of 1920 left the indelible mark on the history of the Ossetian people. The destroyed villages, burned houses, mass executions and the expulsion of tens of thousands of people from their native land - all this is evidence of the atrocities committed against our people. This bloody crime was not only the physical destruction of the people, but also the attempt to break their spirit, deprive them of historical memory and cultural heritage. The genocide of 1920 is not only a tragedy for the Ossetian people, but also a warning to the entire world community, a reminder of the need to combat ethnic hatred and any form of discrimination. The memory of the victims of the bloody terror of 1920 should serve as an incentive to strengthen peace, mutual understanding and respect between peoples," the message of the head of state reads.

Counselor of the Russian Embassy in the Republic of South Ossetia Igor Terziyan in his speech noted the careful and sensitive attitude of the South Ossetian society to its history.

"It is worth a lot that the events of distant days, from which more than 100 years separate us, are the subject of scientific research. The tragic events that took place both in the Caucasus and in Russia after the October Revolution of 1917 and the Civil War of 1917-1922 require careful, painstaking research," the diplomat has emphasized.

During the event, a number of reports were presented on various aspects of the 1920 genocide: historical background, socio-demographic consequences, legal assessment and political processes that followed the tragic events.

June 20 is the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Ossetian Genocide. 105 years ago, South Ossetia was subjected to armed aggression by the Menshevik leadership of Georgia, as a result of which all South Ossetian villages were burned to the ground, and the property of the population was plundered.

The Ossetians were fighting bravely and selflessly against the Georgian invaders, among them were 13 Communards, whose names are inscribed in gold letters in the history of the Ossetian people and are a symbol of patriotism, courage and sacrifice in the name of the Motherland.

In June 1920, 13 resistance members were captured by the Georgian Mensheviks. They were placed in the basement of a private house in Tskhinval, next to the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and a few days later, early in the morning on June 20, they were taken to be shot.

Among them were: Danil Nikolaevich Valiev, Nikolai Archilovich Valiev, Kishil Zurabovich Tskhovrebov, Nikolai Davidovich Kotolov, Andrei Gabievich Dzhioev, Pashka Davidovich Khodov, Sosko Levanovich Gobozov, Ivan Razhdenovich Tedeev, Totr Durievich Tskhovrebov, Butu Gavrilovich Dzeranov, Rezo Davidovich Gigolaev, Sasha Nikolaevich Gigolaev, Gigo Aleksandrovich Kumaritov.
