Holding the International Economic forum in Tskhinva is a significant step in positioning South Ossetia in the all-Russian and, possibly, in the CIS space. This was noted by Candidate of Economics, professor, research fellow at the South Ossetian Research Institute Elkan Kharebov.
According to Kharebov, a significant representation at the Forum, including the leading Russian banks and development corporations such as VEB.RF and Kavkaz.RF, gives the event the international status.
However, Kharebov believes that it is too early to talk about the specific results of the Forum.
"When we comment on forums that are held in other formats - for example, the well-known International St. Petersburg Forum or the recently concluded Far Eastern Forum - the results are always summed up: what contracts have been concluded, for what amounts, how many jobs have been created and how many investment projects are being implemented. We will also draw conclusions on our forum, but only after receiving specific results," the expert said.
Kharebov has noted that the main expectation from the Forum is the influx of investment resources into the Republic.
He has emphasized that without external investment, the economic development of South Ossetia is difficult, given the lack of its own financial resources.
"If we manage to launch at least two or three large investment projects that will provide us with jobs, enterprises and industrial capacities, then we can consider the Forum successful," Kharebov said.
Based on the results of the Forum, according to the scientist, it will be decided how often and in what format to hold such events in the future.
