The long-discredited European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has taken yet another biased step, upholding Georgia's case against Russia and awarding the aggressor, recognized by the European Union's International Commission, €253 million in compensation for the alleged human rights violations related to the 2008 conflict. This was stated in a statement by the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry.

As noted by the Ministry, this extremely biased and politicized decision, which fully reflects the organization's "level of justice," best demonstrates the true face of Europe.

"By rejecting the applications of the South Ossetian citizens in 2021, the European tribunal has signed off on its absolute incompetence, unscrupulously violating the rights of thousands of the South Ossetian residents – the victims of the Georgian aggression, who, apparently, are considered second-class citizens by 'enlightened Europe,'" the Ministry has noted.

It is precisely such approaches to whitewashing the aggressor's crimes, double standards, segregation, and discrimination that lead to even greater tragedies and their repetition, the Foreign Ministry has emphasized.

"Unfortunately, history, and in particular the history of Europe itself, has taught Europeans nothing, and they stubbornly continue to repeat the same mistakes," the statement has noted.

For South Ossetia, the Foreign Ministry has added, against the backdrop of such actions by the European structures, the key to its secure development is strengthening its statehood and improving mechanisms for interaction with friendly countries, primarily with the Russian Federation, which is the guarantor of peace and stability in the region.
