The situation along the state border between South Ossetia and Georgia was assessed as stable during the 66th round of the Geneva Discussions. This was reported by the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry following the talks.

On March 19, 2026, the 66th round of the International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia concluded at the UN Palais des Nations in Geneva. The discussions were held on the basis of the Medvedev-Sarkozy Plan of August 12 and the agreements on its implementation of September 8, 2008.

Official representatives of the Republic of South Ossetia, Republic of Abkhazia, Georgia, the Russian Federation, and the United States participated in the meeting, co-chaired by the EU, UN, and OSCE. The RSO delegation was led by State Advisor to the President Konstantin Kochiev.

According to the Foreign Ministry's press service, the importance of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) and the hotline, which enable the prompt resolution of problematic situations in the border zone, was emphasized during the meeting.

"The South Ossetian delegation once again emphasized the need to delimit and subsequently demarcate the state border between the RSO and Georgia. Particular attention was paid to discussing the approaches to developing a draft document on the non-use of force. The South Ossetian, Abkhaz, and Russian representatives argued in favor of the need to preliminarily define the parameters of this project to ensure successful progress in this important area of work within the IPRM format," the statement reads.

A number of humanitarian issues were discussed at the meeting, with a focus on the fate of the missing South Ossetian citizens.

The South Ossetian representatives also reiterated Georgia's continued violations of the rights of the Ossetians, who have been denying the access to their homes and ancestral lands in the Tyrsygom Valley in Georgia's Kazbegi region for many years.

Discussion of the refugee issue was not held during the meetings of the concluded round. Resumption of discussions on refugees will be possible after Georgia ceases its attempts to unacceptably politicize this humanitarian issue.

The next round of the International Discussions on Security and Stability in the Transcaucasia is scheduled for June-July 2026.
