South Ossetian State University and the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (have signed a cooperation agreement.

The document was signed during a working meeting between the SOSU Rector Vadim Tedeev and the Institute's Director Alikber Alikberov, according to the university's press service.

"The agreement comes into force upon signing and is intended for long-term cooperation with the possibility of subsequently expanding the formats of interaction.

Since 2013, this is the 81st cooperation agreement signed by Vadim Tedeev with universities and research institutions. Since the university's founding, 89 agreements have been signed," the press service has noted.

They added that the parties have discussed issues in the fields of Caucasian Studies and Iranian Studies.

"As part of this cooperation, researchers from the SOSU and the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences will conduct joint fieldwork, involving students from the Faculty of History in archaeological expeditions.

Furthermore, the parties discussed joint scientific and practical events and providing staff from the South Ossetian University with the opportunity to prepare and defend their dissertations at the institute.

It was agreed that the SOSU researchers from the Institute will lecture on history and archaeology for students, and that an elective course in the Persian language will be launched," the university noted.

During the meeting, Vadim Tedeev showed a video about the activities of the university's museum complex and discussed with the institute's leadership the possibility of adding artifacts to the ethnography hall for study by history students.

The SOSU press service has added that the rector cut short his working trip to Moscow and declined to participate in events and business meetings of the Russian Historical Society marking the 160th anniversary of its founding. He and the university staff personally expressed condolences to the family of the victims of the accident – ​​an employee Dina Kabisova and her son, a student Khasan Kokoev.

Vadim Tedeev expressed gratitude to the RHI leadership – Sergey Naryshkin and Ruslan Gagkuyev – for the invitation and apologized for his urgent trip to South Ossetia.
