Lasha Ashuba, Speaker of the People's Assembly (Parliament) of Abkhazia, met with a delegation from the South Ossetian parliament that had arrived in Sukhum for the celebrations marking the Republic's Victory and Independence Day, the press service of the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry reported.
"The delegation has included Ibragim Kharebov, Chairman of the Parliamentary Mandate Commission (head of the delegation); Alexander Gassiev, Chairman of the Commission on Parliamentary Ethics; and Inal Tskhovrebov, Chairman of the Parliamentary Counting Commission," the press service stated.
Also participating in the meeting were Abkhazian MPs Astamur Jopua, Erik Rshtuni, and Yeshsou Dochiya, as well as the South Ossetian Ambassador to Abkhazia, Astamur Katsiya.
Addressing the guests, the Speaker expressed his gratitude for their visit to the Republic of Abkhazia to share this significant state holiday with the Abkhazian people.
Lasha Ashuba conveyed warm greetings to President of South Ossetia, Marat Kambolov, and Chairman of the South Ossetian Parliament, Alan Margiev.
He expressed confidence that the friendly ties between Abkhazia and South Ossetia would continue to strengthen and develop.
Representatives of the South Ossetian parliament congratulated their Abkhazian colleagues on the holiday and presented Speaker Lasha Ashuba with a congratulatory message from Parliamentary Chairman Alan Margiev. Abkhazian lawmakers acknowledged the heroism and courage of the South Ossetian volunteers who took part in the 1992–1993 Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia, as well as their contribution to achieving victory.
During the meeting, the parties noted the warm relations established between the lawmakers of the two republics and emphasized the importance of further strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation.
The meeting concluded with the traditional exchange of gifts.
