The leadership of South Ossetia, headed by President Alan Gagloev, laid wreaths and flowers at the places of the deaths of the Republic's defenders and civilians in August 2008.

The ceremony was also attended by the Russian Embassy in the Republic, representatives of the Parliament, law enforcement agencies, ministries, departments, the Mothers of Beslan, and others.

The ceremony began at the destroyed barracks of the Russian peacekeeping battalion, which was the first to take the aggressor's blow.

South Ossetia has immortalized the memory of the Hero of Russia Vladimir Yedamenko

A monument to the Russian military pilot Vladimir Yedamenko, perished ed in August 2008, was unveiled in South Ossetia.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Republic's leadership, headed by President Alan Gagloev, representatives of the Russian Embassy and departments of the Republic.

"Yedamenko held the helm of his combat aircraft until the last second of his life and found peace in the fifth ocean. We must remember this hero who died for the land of South Ossetia, its future," Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov said.

South Ossetia plans to open embassies in Nicaragua and Venezuela - Foreign Minister
