On November 4, Russia celebrates National Unity Day. The holiday was established in 2005 and from that moment it is a day off. What happened on this day and what exactly Russians celebrate, when and why November 4 became a holiday, what story is hidden behind this date and why such a name was chosen for it.

What happened that day?

September 20 is the 31st anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of South Ossetia. On this day in 1990, the Council of People's Deputies decided to raise the status of the autonomous region to the South Ossetian Soviet Democratic Republic within the Soviet Union. This decision was one of the first steps towards the independence and international recognition of the Republic.

This decision was made due to the socio-political situation in Georgia. The forces of aggressive nationalism relied on massive support.

On Wednesday, The Republic of Nicaragua is celebrating the main national holiday - Independence Day.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia Dmitry Medoev sent a congratulatory message to the head of the Foreign Ministry of Nicaragua, Mr. Denis Ronaldo Moncada Colindres, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Republic's Independence Day, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia reported.

On September 9, 2008, an exchange of notes of the foreign ministries of South Ossetia and Russia on the establishment of diplomatic relations took place, which marked the beginning of a new stage in the history of the Ossetian people – the revival of the Alanian state.

The exchange of relevant notes between the two foreign affairs agencies, which took place 13 years ago, became the logical conclusion of the recognition of the Republic's independence by Russia on August 26, 2008.

The date of May 29 in the recent history of South Ossetia was marked by a number of fateful events. In May 1992, the Act of Declaration of Independence of the Republic of South Ossetia was adopted. And 26 years later, the independence of the State of Alania was recognized by another country - the Syrian Arab Republic.

The Independence Act adopted on May 29, 1992 by the deputies of the first convocation of the Supreme Soviet of our country was an important step on the thorny path of legal registration of the statehood of South Ossetia, proclaiming the creation of an independent state, declaring its territory indivisible, where only the Constitution and laws of the Republic of South Ossetia are in force. Thus, a new state appeared on the world space.

May 1992 became the starting point for the creation of a number of ministries and agencies of the Republic of South Ossetia, the structure of the government of the Republic as a whole. On May 28, 1992, several key departments were created, including the Ministry of Foreign Relations (now the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), the State Security Committee, and the Ministry of Information, Press and Publishing (now the Information and Press Committee).

The armed forces of South Ossetia are celebrating 28 years since the day of formation. The Ministry of Defense was created by the resolution of the Supreme Council of the RSO dated November 17, 1992. In January-February 1993, a staffing structure was approved, which began to be staffed.

Officially, the Ministry was formed on February 22, 1993, but it was decided to celebrate the holiday a day later, combining it with the traditional holiday in honor of the defenders of the Fatherland.

The action dedicated to the 32nd anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan took place on Monday in Tskhinval in front of the monument to the soldiers-internationalists in the Bam micro district. The participants of the event laid flowers and wreaths at the memorial, honoring the memory of the Afghan warriors who did not return from the war.
