On September 9, 2008, an exchange of notes of the foreign ministries of South Ossetia and Russia on the establishment of diplomatic relations took place, which marked the beginning of a new stage in the history of the Ossetian people – the revival of the Alanian state.
The exchange of relevant notes between the two foreign affairs agencies, which took place 13 years ago, became the logical conclusion of the recognition of the Republic's independence by Russia on August 26, 2008.
Bilateral relations have moved to a qualitatively new interstate level - the further signing of two important bilateral documents - the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance of September 17, 2008 and the Treaty of Alliance and Integration of March 18, 2015 - a solid legal foundation was laid for the development of bilateral ties in all directions.
The importance of these events, which gave the people of South Ossetia hope for a peaceful and happy future, cannot be overestimated.
