The 23rd round of discussions on security in Transcaucasia has started in Geneva.
As the news agency "Res" has been informed over the phone from Geneva by the head of the South Ossetian delegation, Presidential Envoy for post-conflict settlement Murat Dzhioev, for the first day of the talks were held bilateral consultations with the international organizations and with some delegations.
"It was noted that the main question for the South Ossetian side was still the matter of security The basic and important issue for us is the work on elaboration of an agreement on non-use of force by Georgia against South Ossetia," - he said.
Murat Dzhioev stressed that the important intermediate step in the preparation and signing of the bilateral legally binding agreement on non-use of force, could be a declaration of the participants of the discussions on the commitment to the principle of non-use of force.
According to the head of the delegation, the main work of the Geneva discussions will continue on Tuesday, March 27.
"In the course of the talks it is also expected to discuss humanitarian issues," - said Dzhioev.
South Ossetian delegation consists of the State Adviser to the President Konstantin Kochiev, head of the South Ossetian delegation at the meetings in the MPRI format Khokh Gagloyty, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Kazbulat Tskhovrebov and Presidential Commissioner for Human Rights Inal Tasoev.
Geneva discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia are conducted since October 2008 on the basis of the agreements reached after the armed aggression of Georgia against South Ossetia in August 2008. The Geneva meetings are attended on an equal basis by delegations of Abkhazia, Georgia, Russia, the U.S., South Ossetia, as well as by the EU, the UN and the OSCE representatives.
