An exhibition dedicated to mine safety has opened in South Ossetia

Day of Mine Safety Education and Assistance in Mine Clearing, organized by the Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in South Ossetia has opened today, April 4, in the capital of South Ossetia.
The opening ceremony was attended by South Ossetian Presidential Envoy on post-conflict settlement Murat Dzhioev, Emergencies Minister Anatoly Bibilov, the public representatives, students of the South Ossetian State University.

An officer of the Anti-Mine Actions Department of the Red Cross, Anna Sanakoeva has noted that this day is celebrated all over the world by the states which suffered the hardships of war.
"We have organized a photo exhibition dedicated to the problem of landmines. The photos are showing the victims that have been blown up by mines, the explosive remnants of war. Thus, we decided to draw public attention to this problem."
She has noted that an exhibition of paintings by school children on the subject was being held in the Republic for a week.
"The subject of their work was to depict what they consider the anti-mine actions - said Sanakoeva. - Thus, we have once again reminded them that we should be careful that we must adhere to safety rules."
She has stressed that the ICRC has been collaborating in this area in South Ossetia with the Ministry of Emergency Situations of South Ossetia.
At the exhibition has also taken place the presentation of the activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross in South Ossetia.
In the end, the audience was shown a film on mine safety.
The International Day of Mine Safety Education and Assistance in Mine Clearing was proclaimed December 8, 2005 by the UN General Assembly. The corresponding resolution was adopted to celebrate it every year on April 4.
