All works on fixation of the line of demarcation of the state border between the Republic of South Ossetia and Georgia are carried out in full accordance with the legislation of the Republic of South Ossetia. This was reported to IA "Res" by the South Ossetian Presidential Envoy for post-conflict settlement, Chairman of the Government Committee of South Ossetia on delimitation and demarcation of the state border Murat Dzhioev.
"In accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of South Ossetia the territory of our state is defined within the territorial framework of the former South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast and its borders with the neighboring state of Georgia coincide with the administrative borders of the autonomous region. But legally these borders – are not the same. Whether Georgia confirms it or not, our state is independent, recognized, and it determines its border policy by itself"- stressed the envoy, commenting on the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia,
"expressing concern" about the works carried out in South Ossetia on demarcation of the border with Georgia.
Dzhioev has emphasized that South Ossetia is ready to cooperate with neighboring countries on delimitation and demarcation of the state borders with them.
"A joint work of the two delegations on delimitation of the state border and preparation of the appropriate agreement was carried out with the Russian Federation. As for Georgia, recently, at the last meeting within the framework of the Geneva discussions, I have once again informed that in the RSO was established a government commission on delimitation and demarcation of the state border with Georgia, and officially called for the Georgian side to work together in this direction. The Georgian side has no yet expressed any comprehension "- he said.
According to the envoy, the one-sided activities of the South Ossetian border guards on fixation of the border line are aimed at informing the local population, mainly living in the border area, and the exclusion of inadvertent violation of the state border.
"The actions of our border guards do not affect the sovereignty of Georgia and the complaints of its representatives - is nothing more than speculation in the interests of the people living along the border," - concluded Dzhioev.
