January 31, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia Dmitry Medoev took part in the solemn events dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Nauru.
As reported by the press service of the Foreign Ministry of South Ossetia, "the official program of celebrations began with a ceremony of raising the national flag, to the strains of the National Anthem of the Republic of Nauru, in the performance of the church choir on the square in front of the government house".
President of Nauru Baron Waqa addressed the population and guests of the country with congratulatory speech, after which took place a parade of the police units and other special units of the Republic.
The parade of thelaw enforcement agencies was complemented by the festive procession of the residents of Nauru, employees of state institutions, schoolchildren and athletes, representatives of tribal groups inhabiting the island.
In the evening on the occasion of the holiday, a solemn reception was given on behalf of the President of Nauru Baron Waqa.
The festivities continued with fireworks and folk festivals.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia Dmitry Medoev, at the invitation of President Nauru Baron Waqa is on an official visit to the Republic of Nauru. During the visit, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of South Ossetia held a number of meetings with the leadership of this country and representatives of foreign delegations who had also arrived to participate in the celebrations on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of Nauru's independence.
The official visit of Dmitry Medoev to Nauru will last until February 4.
