The South Ossetian Foreign Ministry has stated that the adoption of another UN Human Rights Council resolution on the allegedly occupied territories of Georgia in Geneva on October 7—"Cooperation with Georgia"—clearly demonstrates the profound politicization and bias of this international institution.
As noted by the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry, drafts of similar documents have been promoted by Tbilisi and its Western allies since 2017.
"They are declaring a standard set of theses: from ritual confirmation of the integrity of Georgian borders to routine 'concern' for the rights of ethnic Georgians in supposedly occupied territories," the Ministry has emphasized, adding that this demonstrates the Council's loss of the principles of objectivity, impartiality, and professionalism that should underpin its activities.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia pointed out that the proponents of this resolution are deliberately ignoring the tragic pages of the history of the Ossetian people, the long-standing Georgian aggression against South Ossetia, and the scale of the losses suffered.
"Furthermore, within the walls of the Palace of Nations, they prefer not to recall the findings of the international commission led by Heidi Tagliavini, which clearly placed responsibility for the outbreak of hostilities in August 2008 on the Georgian side," the Ministry has stated.
The Ministry has once again reiterated that the geopolitical architecture in Transcaucasia has undergone fundamental changes over the past twenty years, and the West's reluctance to acknowledge these changes is only delaying the settlement process.
"South Ossetia continues to follow its chosen path, the main priority of which is deepening its strategic partnership with Russia as a key guarantor of stability, as well as a readiness to build a respectful and equal dialogue with all members of the international community," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has concluded.
