The Foreign Ministers of South Ossetia and Syria signed an agreement in Damascus on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries,
According to the press service of the diplomatic department of South Ossetia,the document was signed following the talks between Dmitry Medoev and Walid Muallem.
As noted in the Foreign Ministry of South Ossetia, the meeting of the foreign ministers of the two states was held in preparation for the official visit of President Anatoly Bibilov to the Syrian Arab Republic.
"During the conversation the parties discussed a wide range of issues related to the development of bilateral relations, promising areas of cooperation, as well as the situation in the region.
Walid Muallem has greeted Dmitry Medoev on the hospitable Syrian land and stressing that Syria is a sovereign and democratic state, a country with established traditions and ancient culture, where guests are always welcome.
The Syrian Foreign Minister has also noted that the recognition of the state independence of South Ossetia is a deeply thought-out act of the leadership of Syria.
Walid Muallem has stressed that the government of the Syrian Arab Republic, expanding its international relations, is ready to build its relations with the Republic of South Ossetia on the principles of mutual respect and equality.
Dmitry Medoev, in turn, expressed gratitude to the leadership of Syria for a responsible decision to recognize the independence of South Ossetia, wishing the Syrian people a speedy restoration of peace and stability.
According to Medoev, South Ossetia fully supports the just struggle of the people of Syria against the forces of international terrorism, as well as the joint actions of the Russian Federation and the legitimate Syrian government in this direction.
During the meeting, the parties paid special attention to the forthcoming official visit of Anatoly Bibilov to the Syrian Arab Republic.
