President of South Ossetia, Anatoly Bibilov, sent a telegram of condolences to President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in connection with the death of submariners in the Barents Sea, the press service of the head of state reports.
"With a feeling of deep sorrow, I took the news of the terrible tragedy on the nuclear submarine AS-12 in the Barents Sea, which killed 14 officers of the Northern Fleet.
On behalf of the leadership, the people of the Republic of South Ossetia and on my own behalf, I ask you to convey sincere condolences and words of support to the families and friends of the victims, as well as wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured,” the telegram says.
On Tuesday, Ministry of Defense reported a tragedy in the Barents Sea - 14 people died in a fire on a submarine near Severomorsk. And the best of the best died - among the victims are seven captains of the I rank, two Heroes of Russia. Vladimir Putin instructed Sergei Shoigu to personally go to Severomorsk to establish all the causes of the incident.
“This is a big loss,” said President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday evening at an emergency meeting with Sergei Shoigu, when Minister of Defense told him about the emergency. Putin asked the Minister personally to “aim the commission at unambiguously identifying the causes of this tragedy,” and then report back on the situation. The President also instructed to provide support to the families of the dead submariners and do everything to assist. “I offer my most sincere condolences to the families of the victims,” Putin said.
