The Chairman of the government of South Ossetia, Eric Pukhaev, met with the Chairman of the State Committee for Information and Press, Maria Kotaeva, during which she familiarized herself with the results of the department’s work in the first half of 2019, the press service of the Premier reports.
The head has noted that during the reporting period, the Committee carried out more than 30 activities aimed at implementing the state information policy, creating a modern, technically equipped information network, operatively working for both the internal and external needs of the republic.
Special attention in the report was paid to the topic of external information policy, the formation of a positive image of South Ossetia in the global space.
During the meeting, it was also noted that the Committee was actively working on the creation of an “open government”, providing the bureaucracy with a platform for speeches and an exchange of views with the public.
According to Maria Kotaeva, close interaction between the authorities and society will increase the effectiveness of decisions made and the quality of work of the state apparatus as a whole.
The head of the Committee noted that sometimes, under various pretexts, officials avoid open dialogue, which negatively affects their media image.
In addition, the Committee was engaged in book publishing, primarily in the Ossetian language. In total, in the first half of the year, the Republican Printing Production Association released 14 out of 23 planned books.
Active work was also carried out to expand the circle of subscribers to the information resources of the republic and to ensure the availability of domestic periodicals for Ossetian fraternities in the near and far abroad.
The Head of Government assessed the work carried out by the Committee and promised full assistance in solving the tasks set.
“My morning viewing of news begins with the website of the Res news agency, which reflects almost all relevant news, both internal and occurring outside the Republic. Other information resources work at a good level. It is important to develop the information technology industry, especially given the rapidly changing realities,” said Erik Pukhaev.
