The aggravation of tension on the border of South Ossetia and Georgia is taking place at a difficult moment in international relations, Yuri Shevtsov, political scientist and director of the Center for European Integration (Minsk), told IA “Res”.

“We can’t know if there is any coordination in these events, but now there is an exit to the next stage of the conflict settlement in the Donbass,” Shevtsov said, commenting on the current situation on the border of South Ossetia. “And there too, strange spontaneous outbreaks of fighting began to occur that could frustrate or slow down the peace process.”

In his opinion, this always happens when a peaceful settlement of conflicts gets the prospect: "There are always hawks and adventurers who are trying to disrupt the peace process."

Looking from the side, the political scientist continued, there is a fear that this is exactly what is happening on the border of South Ossetia and Georgia.

“Even if there is just a stream of accidents on the border, they will still be perceived in the world mainly through this fear,” Shevtsov stressed.
