President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov signed a decree to pardon Vazha Gaprindashvili, convicted of the illegally crossing the state border, guided by humane considerations, said in a commentary by South Ossetian Foreign Minister Dmitry Medoev published on the website of the country's Foreign Ministry.
"Unfortunately, from the first minutes of the release of Gaprindashvili, we hear from all sides the pathos of the impressive army of" liberators "- politicians, left and right, who converged at the center of this event, shamelessly advertising themselves in the halo of peacekeeping-rescuers," Medoev said.
At the same time, the Foreign Minister added, it’s quite obvious that despite the initial politicization of this process and the populist background created by numerous “liberation fighters” Gaprindashvili, the fact remains that the latter personally wrote a pardon letter addressed to the head of state - the President of the Republic of South Ossetia and during the court session, he apologized for his willful actions and thanked the Ossetian authorities for their humane and respectful attitude.
“We sincerely hope that the“ liberator’s chorus ”will smoothly proceed to the celebration of the new year, and the well-known doctor Gaprindashvili, a citizen of Georgia, realizing that he is free or not, has become an instrument of provocation in the hands of well-known forces, by the way, never again” subscribes "to such acts. The Minister expressed regret that the recent developments on the South Ossetian-Georgian border and the frequent violations of the state border by the neighboring state make us state that stability in the region remains extremely fragile and the atmosphere is more than tense.
