From May 10 to 17, the border between South Ossetia and Russia is completely closed, and according to President Anatoly Bibilov, this decision was made in connection with the real situation with coronavirus in the Republic. “I think that it is necessary to work out a number of measures to protect the population from the penetration of coronavirus. Thanks to the measures taken by the leadership and government of the Republic and the responsible work of people who provide security, we have managed to localize the disease at the quarantine level today,” the President said.

He has added that this fact must not relax us, and appealed to the servicemen of the Border Guard Service, employees of the Customs Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in no way to reduce their responsibility in the fight against coronavirus. He once again noted that drivers of heavy vehicles delivering essential goods to the republic Should not get out of the car and return to North Ossetia, or be in quarantine for two weeks. “I understand the costs they are experiencing, but in this situation, we need to mobilize and bear the existing burdens with understanding. These are temporary inconveniences, and I hope they do not drag out,” he said.

Anatoly Bibilov addressed the words of gratitude to the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia in North Ossetia for the clear organization of work on the return of South Ossetian citizens from Russia to their homeland. “Without the measures taken, we will not be able to protect our people, including them, too. All obligations to maintain stability in South Ossetia and not to penetrate the coronavirus into the territory of the Republic must be fulfilled clearly and responsibly,” the head of state said.
