Residents of South Ossetia will light candles in memory of the victims of the Ered tragedy. As the press service of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic informed IA "Res", on March 18, at 11.00 at the city cemetery, the event "Symbolic meadow of memory" will take place.
“Laying of flowers at the monument to the victims of the Ered tragedy will take place. Their photographs will be displayed at the stands, and lamps and candles will burn in their memory. During the commemorative event, the song of the old monk will be performed. The speech of the President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov is also expected,” the Ministry of Culture said.
The tragedy in the village of Ered, which became one of the darkest pages of the genocide of the Ossetian people, took place on March 18, 1991. On that day, near the village of Ered, Georgian informals disembarked 25 Ossetians from a military vehicle belonging to the internal troops of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs. The women and children were brutally beaten, but released, and after the brutal beating, 12 guys began to be taken to the "headquarters" of Georgian gangs for further torture. However, the headquarters refused to accept them.
After that, the prisoners began to be transported by truck to Georgian villages, shouting: “Who is wanting the Ossetian blood”, meaning “who wants to mock the Ossetians,” but people were closing their doors.
Then, according to eyewitnesses, the hostages were severely tortured, during which the prisoners were tortured with electric shocks, their bones were broken, their arms and legs were torn off, and their eyes were gouged out. After 12 Ossetians, the youngest of whom was 19 years old, they threw them into a ravine over the village of Ered near the quarry, doused them with gasoline and set them on fire, and then covered them with earth while still alive.
