For four years, the engineers of the Center for Special Risk Rescue Operations "Leader" of the Russian Emergencies Ministry have done a great job in South Ossetia to clear the territory of the Republic from explosive objects.
The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of South Ossetia Azamat Chochiev has told the IA "Res” that in 2020 Russian sappers were supposed to continue the work in South Ossetia, but the coronavirus pandemic made adjustments to the plans.
"Waiting for an answer. We hope that this year the "Leader» sappers will be able to come to the Republic and continue to work on clearing the territory from explosive objects. We still have problem areas that require the assistance of Russian sappers. We sent a corresponding letter to the Russian government last autumn,” he said.
Chochiev has noted that during the visit to Moscow of the delegation of the Ministry of Emergency Situations to participate in the International Salon "Integrated Security - 2021", he also met with the head of the Center, Anatoly Savvin, who himself was interested in the result of the South Ossetian side's appeal.
The South Ossetian Minister highly appreciated the work of Russian sappers, and also noted their great contribution to the security of the population of South Ossetia.
A detachment from the "Leader" has been coming to South Ossetia for four years in a row, and during this time, demining work took place in the territories of the Pris, Isaky-Kau, Novokurtatinsky gorge and near the village of Zar. The total area of the cleared territory was 130 hectares, 1049 explosive objects were found.
In April 2019, the engineers of the Center for Rescue Operations of Special Risk "Leader" of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation again arrived in South Ossetia to carry out the tasks to cleanse the Republic's territories from explosive objects. The most intense and dangerous was the last section - the village of Zar. The work was completed in mid-July, then the Russian sappers assured the South Ossetian side that, if necessary, they would continue to cleanse the territories of South Ossetia from explosive objects.
