The main task of the Geneva discussions is to develop a document on the non-use of force against South Ossetia and Abkhazia, said at the meeting Presidential Envoy for post-conflict settlement Murat Dzhioev with the co-chairs of the Geneva discussions who had arrived in Tskhinval.
“Our common goal is to achieve a calm and safe residence on the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia, which means for the region as a whole. I hope we will discuss issues that we will be able to discuss at the upcoming round in Geneva. And these are, first of all, security issues and the development of a document on the non-use of force against South Ossetia and Abkhazia,” said Dzhioev.
According to him, the South Ossetian delegation in Geneva has all the powers to work on a document on the non-use of force.
“We have an appropriate attitude, and we are confident that the co-chairs, representatives of international organizations, acting as moderators of the discussions, will do everything possible to make the work on the document more active,” Dzhioev emphasized.
The Plenipotentiary has added that the situation in the region, as a whole, remains relatively stable.
“But this stable-tense situation does not allow us to relax. In this regard, it should be noted the positive work within the framework of the IPRM, the hotline is also working effectively. I think these are important achievements of the Geneva Discussions,” he said.
The EU Co-Chair Toivo Klaar also expressed hope for fruitful work in the upcoming round of the Geneva discussions.
“We take security issues very seriously and will strive to move forward on this issue,” Klaar said. “Today we will have the opportunity to talk with the students of the South Ossetian State University, next time we hope to go to Leningor district, it is important for us to get a general idea of the situation.”
The OSCE Co-Chair Annika Seder has stressed that the platform in Geneva provides an opportunity for the participants of the discussions to exchange views.
“We are glad that such meaningful and useful discussions are being held. Of course, the issues of non-use of force and security are key in the mandate of the Geneva Discussions. Many issues are very complex, we are grateful to the South Ossetian party for participating in this format,” she stressed.
