The delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic, headed by Deputy Speaker of the Syrian Parliament, Muhammad Akram Al-Ajlani, solemnly planted birches, which are located next to conifers on the South Ossetian-Syrian Friendship Alley, in the Valery Khubulov Central Park of Culture and Recreation in Tskhinval.

The official delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic arrived in Tskhinval to participate in the celebration of the Republic Day, which will be celebrated on Monday, September 20.

The event was attended by Speaker of the Parliament of South Ossetia Alan Tadtaev, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Medoev, deputies of the Parliament of the Republic of South Ossetia and other officials.

“Today is a very important day - the Day of the State Flag of the Republic of South Ossetia, tomorrow - the Day of the Republic, and a day later - the feast of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, and I congratulate the residents of the Republic on these holidays. The guests from the Syrian Arab Republic have come to our celebration. Today they planted trees in the Central Park as a sign of friendship and cooperation between South Ossetia and Syria,” Dmitry Medoev told reporters.

He has noted that the trees will be properly cared for so that a beautiful alley will grow.

The first seedlings on the alley were planted in honor of the 29th anniversary of the signing of the Act on the Republic's Independence and the third anniversary of the recognition of South Ossetia's independence by Syria on the initiative of the Russian delegation headed by the theater and film actor, director, producer Alexander Pankratov-Cherny.

Syria recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia on May 29, 2018, in July, Tskhinval and Damascus established diplomatic relations, the first official visit of South Ossetian President Anatoly Bibilov to Syria took place, where the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation was signed.

In May 2019, an agreement was signed between South Ossetia and Syria to open trading houses in both republics.
