The people of South Ossetia can continue to firmly count on Russia's help, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev said on Tuesday at the meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic to the Russian Federation Znaur Gassiev.
The key topic of discussion was the development of relations between Russia and South Ossetia, the situation in the Republic and in the region on the eve of the upcoming presidential elections in South Ossetia in April 2022. The parties also considered the prospects for intensifying ties between the parliaments of the two countries, the press service of the Federation Council reported.
Gassiev expressed gratitude to Russia and, in particular, to the Federation Council for the continued support of South Ossetia, emphasizing the importance of this factor for the peaceful and stable development of the Republic.
The Parliament of South Ossetia has scheduled the elections of the President of the Republic for April 10 this year.
