The State Security Committee of South Ossetia, within its competence, is working to ensure that the elections in the Republic are held in a calm and stable environment, strictly within the framework of the current legislation and generally accepted democratic procedures, the Committee said in the statement issued on Friday.

"An analysis of the complex political situation throughout the post-Soviet space gives grounds to assert that there is a significant increase in threats to regional security.

Attempts to expand the NATO bloc to the east, the refusal of the North Atlantic Alliance to return to the positions of 1997, as well as the involvement of former USSR countries, primarily Georgia and Ukraine, in this military-political bloc, provoke serious military risks, including in the South Ossetian direction," the text says.

The department noted that under the current conditions in the Republic, a campaign for the election of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia, which is scheduled for April 10, 2022, will start.

"The KGB, within its competence, is working to ensure that the elections are held in a calm and stable environment, strictly within the framework of the current legislation and generally accepted democratic procedures. We believe that the use of the so-called "color technologies" actively promoted by the Western countries aimed at destabilizing the domestic political situation for the sake of geopolitical opponents, are unacceptable for South Ossetia," the KGB said.

The Committee called on residents of the Republic, including the. citizens running for the post of head of state and their supporters, observe political correctness and mutual respect regardless of electoral preferences, prevent the growth of contradictions and tension in our society, and not succumb to the provocations of internal and external destructive forces.

"We are firmly convinced that the people of South Ossetia, having withstood difficult trials with honor and managed to defend their independence, will once again show political wisdom and will be able to adequately conduct the upcoming election campaign for the benefit of our Republic.

We remind you that violations of the legislation of the Republic of South Ossetia related to attempts to destabilize the socio-political situation, slander and mutual insults in public space entail not only administrative, but also criminal liability," the KGB said.
