President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov said that the Republic would continue to assist Russia's special military operation in the Donbass.
"We must understand that there is only one special military operation for everyone who considers themselves Russians. Russia is our historical homeland, this is our operation, we are united," he said on the air of the Rossiya 24 TV channel.
“We believe that we are all participants in this operation, we are all one people. I can also say that many guys from South Ossetia, back in 2014, without asking anyone, went to the Donbass as militias in order to stand next to the people of Donbass, and we will continue this, of course," he added.
“Why? Because we understand that if we don’t win there, if we don’t achieve victory there in the lair of this Nazism, tomorrow these Nazis, together with the nationalists, the Nazis of the Republic of Georgia, will already be in South Ossetia. This is our common task to finish off this Nazism, neo-Nazism, fascism," Bibilov said.
Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. President Vladimir Putin called its goal "the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years." For this, according to him, it is planned to carry out "demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine", to bring to justice all war criminals responsible for "bloody crimes against civilians" in Donbass.
According to the Defense Ministry of the Russian Federation, the Armed Forces strike only at the military infrastructure and Ukrainian troops and, as of March 25, they have completed the main tasks of the first stage - they have significantly reduced the combat potential of Ukraine. The main goal in the Russian military department was called the liberation of Donbass.
Earlier, Bibilov said that the Republic would soon take legal steps to become part of Russia. Bibilov has noted that the opportunity to realize this "strategic goal" was back in 2014, when Crimea was reunited with the Russian Federation following the referendum.
