“May 20 marks the 30th anniversary of the execution of civilians in our republic by Georgian gangs on the Zar road. On this day, our people traditionally honor the memory of the perished. At 10.00 on the Theater Square of Tskhinval there will be a gathering of people leaving for the scene of the tragedy,” the press service said.
They have noted that commemorative events on the Zar road will begin at 11.15.
"People will lay wreaths, baskets and flowers at the monument to the victims of the tragedy, after which a mourning meeting will take place, which will end with a nationwide Minute of Remembrance," the press service stressed.
30 years ago, on May 20, 1992, a convoy of trucks and several cars, mostly old people, women and children, was heading towards North Ossetia.
The column was stopped by the Georgian militants, who started point-blank shooting at unarmed civilians. The oldest of the victims was 73 years old, the youngest was 11 years old.
At the site of the tragedy in 2007, an obelisk "Grieving Mother" was installed - an image of a woman protecting her child
