On Monday, President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev suspended the decree on calling a referendum on the Republic's entry into Russia. The decree "On the Ways of Further Integration of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation" was published on the official website of the head of state.
"Guided by Article 51 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Ossetia, Part 2 of Article 12 of the Constitutional Law of the Republic of South Ossetia dated December 27, 2018 "On Basic Guarantees of Electoral Rights and the Right to Participate in a Referendum of Citizens of the Republic of South Ossetia", given the uncertainty of the legal consequences of the issue submitted to the referendum in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia dated May 13, 2022 "On calling a referendum of the Republic of South Ossetia", recognizing the inadmissibility of the unilateral decision of a referendum on the issues affecting the legitimate rights and interests of the Russian Federation, fully supporting the initiative of the citizens of the Republic of South Ossetia on the further integration of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation, in accordance with Article 1 of the Treaty of Alliance and Integration signed between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia of March 18, 2015, I decree: to immediately hold consultations with the Russian party on the entire range of issues related to with the further integration of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation," the text of the decree reads.
The second paragraph of the document approves the personal composition of the delegation of the Republic of South Ossetia for consultations with the Russian Federation, referred to in paragraph 1 of this decree.
The delegation has included: Gagloev Alan Eduardovich - President of the Republic of South Ossetia (head of the delegation), Tadtaev Alan Sergeevich - Chairman of the Parliament of the Republic, Kochieva Olesya Akhsarovna - Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic, Gagieva Emilia Radikovna - Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic,
Medoev Dmitry Nikolaevich - Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic, Kochiev Konstantin Karlenovich - State Advisor to the President of the Republic.
In accordance with the Decree, until the completion of consultations, the decree of the President of the Republic of May 13, 2022 "On calling a referendum of the Republic of South Ossetia" is suspended.
This Decree comes into force from the date of its signing.
