Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia has condemned the Georgia-initiated resolution "The situation of the internally displaced persons and refugees from Abkhazia, Georgia, and the Tskhinval district South Ossetia, Georgia".

The document was adopted within the framework of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.

“Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia strongly condemns and considers unacceptable the adoption of the resolution introduced annually by Georgia after August 2008, since it reflects an exclusively one-sided politically biased approach that has nothing to do with the true state of affairs and concern for the fate of refugees,” - the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry said in the comment.

The Foreign Ministry noted that "the position of the countries that supported the document without taking into account the existing realities and interests of South Ossetia is quite surprising."

“The regret expressed in the resolution in connection with some hypothetical Georgian refugees also looks strange, when the real history remembers ethnic Georgians purposefully and voluntarily leaving the territory of South Ossetia a few days before the start of the attack by Georgian troops both in the 90s and in August 2008.

At the same time, about 100,000 Ossetian refugees were forced to flee from South Ossetia and Georgia since 1990 in search of salvation from ethnic cleansing and aggression of Georgia, whose fate is of little concern to the collective West,” the Ministry stressed.

They added that South Ossetia has once again been called an occupied part of Georgia, which has not caused any emotions for a long time.

“The Republic of South Ossetia is the independent sovereign state and has nothing to do with the territory of Georgia. The reality lies in the fact that Georgia has actually occupied the original Ossetian lands - the so-called. Kazbegi region, where there is a massive violation of human rights. The Ossetian population squeezed out of these lands is forbidden to visit their own homes, the graves of their ancestors, and the Georgian leadership and its Western friends in the UN do not comment this in any way,” the Foreign Ministry noted.

The Ministry expressed regret over the fact that "recently, the once authoritative international organization has been turning into a platform for "elected" states and serves only to achieve their political goals."

“Meanwhile, the discussion of the problem of refugees is the task of international discussions in Geneva, within which representatives of South Ossetia, Abkhazia and Georgia can exchange views on the entire spectrum of existing problems. The adoption of such resolutions in the UN, where South Ossetia and Abkhazia are not represented, deprives any document of objectivity and does not contribute to the achievement of fair decisions and stability in the region,” the Foreign Ministry said.
