South Ossetia has given the last honors to the volunteer Marat Dzhioev, who had perished during a special military operation in Ukraine, the press service of the head of state reported.

The leadership of the Republic headed by President Alan Gagloev, members of the public, friends of the deceased came to give the last honors to the hero.

The head of state expressed deep condolences to the families and friends of Marat Dzhioev.

“With pain in our hearts, today we are paying last tribute to to the fallen hero, the son of the Ossetian people. No words of support can drown out the pain of loss, I bow my head to Marat's family. We must always remember people like him. Their names will forever remain in the memory of the Ossetian people. At the cost of their own lives, they are fighting for the freedom and future of our Motherland,” he said.

Alan Gagloev has also noted that today is another anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War.

“As then, our guys are fighting against fascism, sacrificing themselves, they are defending our freedom, showing courage and bravery during a special military operation in Ukraine. God forbid that there is no more sad news and our guys return home alive,” he has stressed.

By presidential decree, Marat Dzhioev was awarded (posthumously) the medal "Defender of the Fatherland".
