The memory of those killed as a result of Georgia's armed aggression against South Ossetia in August 2008 will be commemorated in Tskhinval. On the 15th anniversary of the war, at the National Museum will be opened a photo exhibition "08.08.08 - 08.08.23" and the play about the Ossetian genocide in 1920, "The Last Witness," will be shown at the State Drama Theatre, the Republic's Ministry of Culture told IA "Res".
On the evening of August 7, at 22:00, a solemn funeral ceremony will be held near the memorial complex "Defenders of South Ossetia" on Makharbek Tuganov Street in Tskhinval. Representatives of the public, Tskhinval residents, politicians, and the leadership of the Republic will gather here.
On the morning of August 8, the leadership of the Republic, as well as the guests, will lay flowers at the places of death of the defenders of South Ossetia, after which they will visit the Museum of Burnt Souls in the village of Tbet in Tskhinval district.
Memorial services for the victims of the August war will be held in the churches of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos and the Holy Trinity.
Candles will also be lit in Moscow and Vladikavkaz in memory of the fallen civilians of South Ossetia, the defenders of Tskhinval, the Ossetian and Russian peacekeeping forces.
The action of memory was earlier held in Italy, in the city of Pesaro, organized by the official representation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia.
On the night of August 8, 2008, Georgia committed the armed attack on South Ossetia. As a result of the war, more than a thousand people died, of which 72 were the Russian servicemen. On August 26, 2008 Russia recognized the sovereignty of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the recognition of the independence of the two republics reflects the existing realities and is not subject to revision.
