Members of the Commission on Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation between Russia and South Ossetia will discuss issues of acquisition of Russian citizenship in a simplified manner, the head of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and Inter-parliamentary relations Zaza Driaev told reporters.

According to the parliamentarian, the issue will be discussed during the visit of the delegation of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation to the Republic in October.

“Today, it is necessary to develop a certain mechanism. Everything depends on the Russian Federation. As soon as the scheme for acquiring Russian citizenship in a simplified manner is outlined, it will be transferred to the relevant authorities, where citizenship is granted,” Driaev said.

The agreement between the Russian Federation and South Ossetia on the settlement of issues of dual citizenship was signed last year. The document was ratified by the legislative bodies of the two countries. It provides for a simplified version of acquiring citizenship by citizens of the Republic of South Ossetia. The document has been ratified, but at this stage it is not working yet.
