During the period from August 29 to September 15 the operational situation in the security of South Ossetia remained stable. The State Security Committee carries out the work in the main areas of activity, Alexander Tuaev, First Deputy Chairman of the KGB of South Ossetia, said at the meeting of President Alan Gagloev with the heads of power ministries and departments.

Valerian Alikhanty, Head of the Border Guard Service of the Republic of South Ossetia, reported to the head of state on the activities to ensure security at the state border. According to him, during the reporting period, the situation on the South Ossetian-Georgian section of the border was characterized as predictable.

“During the implementation of the order to protect the state border, within the framework of interaction with the border department of the FSB of Russia in the Republic of South Ossetia, the information was received on some events organized at the entrances to Georgia from the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia. In connection with the temporary resumption of the passage through the places of the simplified crossing of the state border "Razdakhan" and "Pereu", the Georgian side carried out control measures at the exit to Georgia. In particular, documents were checked in some cases, they were photographed, as well as a survey of residents about the socio-political situation in South Ossetia,” he has noted.

Alikhanty stressed that on August 20 and 21, in the area of the settlement Oldisi, Dusheti municipality of Georgia, there were Georgian media film crews, who interviewed the passing residents of the Leningor district, asked them about the facts of ethnic harassment by local authorities.

He has said that the monitoring of the crossing of the state border was also carried out by employees of the EU monitoring mission in Georgia, who were daily at the settlements of Pereu and Odisi. Also, the leader of the Strength in Unity movement, David Katsarava, was visiting the border villages, where he was observing the situations using an unmanned aerial vehicle.

“As a result of observation in the area of the village of Uista, the border detachment recorded the flight of a twin-engine aircraft of the AN-28 type, the flight route was Avneu-Kobi-Chorchana without violating the airspace of South Ossetia. In addition, at night, shooting with the use of automatic weapons was recorded opposite the settlement Uista. In both cases, a "hot line" of communication with the EU mission in Georgia was activated,” he said.

According to the decision of the Security Council of the RSO, the places of crossing the state border "Razdakhan" and "Pereu" continued to function until the 30th.

“As a result of the analysis, it was found that in the period from August 20 to August 30, 3,606 people and 3 vehicles crossed the state border (to Georgia). Of these: "Razdakhan" was crossed by 3190 people (entry-1554 people, exit-1636 people). "Pereu" was crossed by 416 people (entry-201 people, exit-215). According to the statements of citizens, 11 passes were issued in the Leningor district,” said the head of the Border Service of the Republic of South Ossetia.

In order to prevent the crossing of contraband and other illegally transported goods and cargo across the state border and compliance with sanitary and epidemiological measures, the Border Service believes that there is a need to organize the work of regulatory authorities at the crossing point of the state border "Pereu".
