In Tskhinval, a meeting of the participants of the South Ossetian delegation at the Geneva International Discussions with the EU, the OSCE and the UN co-chairs of the Geneva Discussions was held in the format of a videoconference. According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic, during the meeting a number of issues related to the upcoming 57th round of discussions were discussed.

“The South Ossetian party has emphasized that long breaks in the work negatively affect the effectiveness of the Geneva discussions, which today have no alternative and are the most important international platform for maintaining a direct dialogue between the parties. The current Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) cannot fully replace full-scale meetings of the parties involved,” the press service said.

The Foreign Ministry has added that the participants reaffirmed the key goal of the discussions - ensuring lasting security in the region and excluding the possibility of a resumption of hostilities.

"In this context, the South Ossetian party emphasized its position on the need to return to work on a legally binding agreement on the non-use of force, as well as to launch consultations on delimitation as soon as possible," the Ministry said.

The meeting participants reiterated their commitment to continue fruitful and constructive work within the framework of the Geneva process, despite the difficult geopolitical situation in the world, the Foreign Ministry has concluded.

The meeting within the framework of the 57th round of the Geneva discussions is scheduled for April 4-5, 2023.
