A two-day 57th round of discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia began in Geneva on Tuesday. According to the press service of the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry, within the framework of the first day of work, the South Ossetian delegation held meetings with the co-chairs and moderators of the 1st and 2nd working groups, at which key issues on the agenda of the main discussion day were discussed.

"A thorough exchange of views took place on the need to continue the Geneva process and return to the regular mode of holding rounds of discussions as an important factor in maintaining stability and security in the region," the press service said.

They noted that the delegation of South Ossetia held several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the forum with other delegations of the participating parties, during which they reaffirmed their commitment to their principled positions on issues that will be discussed on April 5 as part of the main day of work.

International discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia have been held in Geneva since 2008 with the participation of Abkhazia, Georgia, Russia, the United States and South Ossetia, mediated by the UN, the EU and the OSCE special representatives. The work is traditionally carried out in two working groups - on security and on humanitarian issues. The Geneva discussions remain the only platform for the dialogue between Sukhum, Tbilisi and Tskhinval.

The previous 56th round of the discussion, the only one for the whole year, was held in October 2022, later it was postponed twice without agreement with other participants in the discussions.
