President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev awarded the highest state award - the Order of "Uatsamonga" to Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev "for outstanding services in repelling Georgia's aggression", as well as his personal contribution to affirmation of the independence of the Republic.
August 26 South Ossetia will be marking the 15th anniversary of the recognition of the Republic's independence by Russia.
"In recognition of outstanding services in repelling the armed aggression of Georgia against the Republic of South Ossetia, as well as a personal contribution to the assertion of the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia, to award the Order of Uatsamonga to Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation," the Presidential decree, published on the website of the head of state, reads.
The President expressed gratitude to Medvedev and the entire leadership of the Russian Federation for the decision taken in 2008 and noted that every resident of South Ossetia would be grateful for the peace that the Republic gained after Russia recognized its independence.
"Your historic decisions were met with universal rejoicing, and all of us, every resident of South Ossetia, will remember these moments until the end of our lives. You yourself probably felt that sincere gratitude of the people during your visit to South Ossetia. You will always be remembered as a man who put an end to the long-term war, stopped the terror against our people and ensured a peaceful future for our children," Gagloev's press service quoted him. The President stressed that the recognition of South Ossetia's independence had opened wide opportunities for peaceful development for the Republic, and invited Medvedev to visit South Ossetia at any time convenient for him.
On Friday, the South Ossetian leader met with Dmitry Medvedev in Moscow.
With the name of Dmitry Medvedev, people of South Ossetia associate the fulfillment of the age-old dream - on August 26, 2008, as President of Russia, he signed a decree recognizing the state sovereignty of the Republic.
In July 2009, the first visit of the head of the Russian state to South Ossetia took place.
Hundreds of residents of the Republic greeted Dmitry Medvedev with loud applause and exclamations.
