Georgia's receipt of candidate status for joining the European Union does not guarantee its entry into the international alliance, this opinion was expressed by the head of the information and analytical department of the South Ossetian Presidential Executive Office, political scientist Yuri Vazagov at the press conference in Tskhinval.

“The issue of granting Georgia the candidate status for the EU membership has become for it the same “carrot” as the NATO membership. Even if it receives the candidate status this year, this does not mean that it will be able to join the European Union in the foreseeable decades, - Vazagov said.

For example, Turkey is in this status for quite a long time, and there is no chance that the situation will change for it,” Vazagov said.

The political scientist has emphasized that Georgia has become a hostage to the chosen path of development when the political elites tried to solve their problems with the help of external players.

State Advisor to President of South Ossetia Vyacheslav Gobozov, in turn, has noted that Georgia is well aware that in the near foreseeable future there are no prospects for joining the EU and other European structures.

“In Georgia, this was perfectly understood by the example of Ukraine and all other countries. But they don’t want to be the extreme ones in this situation, responsible for the fact that this prospect has failed. And that’s why there are unexpected anti-Russian statements from the rostrum of the UN General Assembly,” Gobozov has emphasized.

According to him, such statements are made so that the Georgian public does not accuse the current government of Georgia of failing the European bright future of Georgia.
