The issue of dual citizenship with the Russian Federation was discussed in the Parliament of South Ossetia during the work of the Commission on Cooperation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia and the Parliament of the Republic.

As noted by the head of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Inter-parliamentary Relations of the South Ossetian legislative body, co-Chairman of the Commission Zaza Driaev, this issue is being raised at all levels.

“We have already raised the issue of dual citizenship head-on. We were informed that the issue will be resolved by the end of this year,” Driaev said.

Representative of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Sergei Tsekov has noted that the agreement on dual citizenship is one of the most important issues being considered now.

“The work on the agreement on dual citizenship has already been carried out, it has been signed and ratified, but to bring it to its logical conclusion, relevant regulations are needed. We were talking that by the end of this year all issues would be resolved. There are still nuances that need to be resolved. But we still hope that by the end of this year all the issues related to the dual citizenship will be resolved,” Tsekov said.

Tsekov has noted that to date, 122 treaties and agreements have been signed within the framework of the Treaty of Alliance and Integration.
