The South Ossetian delegation will raise at the international Geneva discussions the issue of preventing journalists from attending meetings held in the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) format.
Deputy Presidential Envoy for Post-Conflict Resolution of the Republic of South Ossetia, Head of the South Ossetian delegation to the IPRM Egor Kochiev told media representatives about this following the results of the 116th meeting within the format, held in the border village of Ergnet. on Wednesday
“We will definitely discuss this issue at the Geneva discussions, because this is an obstacle to the dissemination of information. I would really like to talk with Georgian journalists in order to convey the point of view of the South Ossetian party to residents of Georgia,” he said.
According to Kochiev, there is no clear understanding of which party is preventing the presence of journalists at the negotiation processes.
“I can say one thing - this is not the South Ossetian party. As the answer was once given when journalists were not allowed into the meeting, one of the participants in the process was obstructing it, but no exact answer was given. I tried to find out who it was, but I didn’t receive a specific answer,” shared the head of the delegation.
Kochiev has emphasized that he is ready for dialogue with both the South Ossetian, Georgian and international journalists.
He has added that the next round of Geneva discussions will take place approximately in the first half of April 2024.
On December 5-6, 2023, the 59th round of international discussions on security in Transcaucasia took place in Geneva. The meeting was attended by delegations from South Ossetia, Abkhazia, Georgia, the Russian Federation, the United States, as well as the EU, UN and OSCE representatives. The South Ossetian delegation was headed by State Advisor to the President Konstantin Kochiev.
