President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev met with the deputies of the parliament of the first convocation, who adopted the Act of Declaration of Independence of the Republic 32 years ago. Gagloev has noted that the date of May 29 is one of the main public holidays in South Ossetia.
“On this day, 32 years ago, a big step was taken towards the recognition of sovereignty,” Gagloev said, noting that the people of the Republic had gone through a long and difficult path of struggle for freedom and independence.
The President expressed words of gratitude to the deputies of the first convocation for their courage in difficult times for South Ossetia.
“Having gone through difficult trials, South Ossetia is today the independent state and you, deputies of the first convocation, laid a solid foundation for this,” Gagloev addressed the deputies. “Unfortunately, many are no longer among us, but they forever inscribed their names in the history of our country.”
Gagloev has noted that these deputies have become an example for the younger generation.
“After Russia recognized our independence in 2008, we all believed that Ossetians would no longer have to take up arms,” the President said. “But today our guys are fighting against a common enemy, giving their lives for a peaceful future. We believe that they will soon return home with victory, to a peaceful life.”
The deputy of the first convocation Murat Dzhioev congratulated everyone on the holiday and expressed gratitude to the head of state for his attention.
“The first steps were difficult for us; we were learning diplomacy and state building on the go,” Dzhioev said. “There were no disagreements between the party representatives; we were all united in our desire to achieve independence and together we did everything possible to achieve this.”
Dzhioev has noted that the adoption of the Act of Declaration of Independence of South Ossetia is of great historical significance, which laid a solid legal foundation for the state structure and development of the Republic.
Dzhioev reminded that the next parliamentary elections would be held on June 9 and wished the future deputies that they would also work together to strengthen the statehood of the Republic.
